Fundamentals for Founders: The Practical Guide to Kick-Starting Your BusinessLike many others that might be interested in this book, I started an experiment this year to start my own company.I read many books and blogs about getting started, but nothing was as ACTIONABLE as this book. This book focuses on the actual “getting things done” part of starting a venture rather than the fluffy “you can do it” speech or the high-level strategies for the next billion-dollar business. Here is what I took away from it:

- Step-by-step guidance on developing a product (online or not) using a customer-oriented approach, building Experience Trees and defining Use Cases
- Tactical advice on how to build a website: how to outsource, how to manage the project, and how to make it popular
- Tips for doing market research, surveys, pricing tests
- Much more on financial modeling, distribution & sales, raising capital and so on

From the suggestions in this book, I must have bookmarked 10-20 new sites and vendors that I will use immediately.Reading this book was like having a long late night chat with an experienced friend who’s started many companies, succeeded and failed, and is giving you all the advice you need to take that first step and make it a good one.Trust me, if you’re starting a venture of any kind, get this book, and it will ease your anxiety, increase your confidence, and help you attack!

Libey and Pickering on RFM and BeyondAlmost 30 years ago RFM (recency, frequency and monetary value) analysis entered the marketing lexicon, courtesy of Don Libey’s first book on the subject. All good and useful things come back in vogue (some never really leave, while some come back with new names with new “thought leaders”). Don Libey and Chris Pickering have produced a useful book worthy of all business libraries and personal libraries. It is already in mine, and will soon be in the libraries of my clients.

Not that I have an opinion.
