Yes, I make money writing for ehow. I love helping other people increase their earnings on ehow as well. Having been writing for ehow for a year and being rather addicted to testing various SEO and promotion methods, I thought it would be nice to give some steps anyone within the WCP could follow.
Instructions
- Join eHow’s Writer’s Compensation Program (WCP for short). This is a separate step from just joining eHow as a registered user. You must be 18 with a valid US social security card and paypal account to register for the WCP.
- Write quality articles people will want to readWrite quality articles. This is not a quantity contest. If you write quality articles, you will be rewarded. Look to the ‘Write’ tab at the top of each page to garnish some writing advice. Many eHow writers have also written on this specific topic.
- Research articles before writingResearch topics that are either timely or evergreen. Things people would search for specifically to fill an immediate need. Those needs can be seasonal or something that consistently appeals to the masses. Many websites exist where you can research topics or niche areas that are popular, for free.
- Take notes of not only which of your articles fair better in views and earnings but also what categories those articles are in. Not all categories earn the same. However, don’t ignore topics you are highly knowledgeable in just because it may not earn quite as much as something you’d have to spend more time researching.
- Promote your ehow articlesPromote your articles. You will get some traffic due to eHow’s ability to draw in the search engines but relying on only that method is like leaving money on the table. Promote your articles on your website, blogs, email signature, forums, etc. Let the world know it’s there.
- Read and Rate Other ArticlesTake the time to read and rate other people’s articles. Many will return the favor. Another way ehow friends can find your articles is by posting them on the forum thread for articles of the day. Please refrain from ’spamming’ people on your friend’s list with requests to read and rate. This can be highly annoying.
- Submit your article to a variety of social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Stumble upon, Technorati, etc. Twitter is also great.
- How to Write for eHow ebookConsider purchasing my How to Write for eHow ebook. Many ehow writer’s have stated that it has helped them double and even triple their ehow earnings in a very short period of time. Link in resource section below.
- Make Money as an AffiliateBecome an affiliate for the ehow ebook above. I share a generous 50% profit from each sale you make. Add your own unique affiliate link to the resource section of your articles or from your profile and you could easily make money for a simple copy/paste link. You do not need to purchase the ebook to participate in the affiliate program. Be sure to visit the link in the resources section below this article to learn more.
Tips & Warnings
- Use correct grammar and spelling. If this is not your strong suit, consider using Word’s auto check features and/or having a trusted friend read your article over for you and offer corrections. People, by default, will assume a level (or lack thereof) quality based much on your grammar and spelling abilities.
- Asking someone to click ads is fraud, a serious legal matter. You could be banned for this offense, don’t do it.

If you want a laying-the-foundation type of book for starting work as an article writer, affiliate user, or rights reseller, From Suits to Sweats: How to Work at Home as a Freelance Writer is a great place to start. It really covers all the bases. I had no idea what resell rights or affiliates even were before I started reading this book. Now I have a very good understanding of what each of them are as well as how they are connected and work together. I am much more prepared now with knowledge as well as Paige Jackson, the author’s, personal experience. Since the author is working in this field, she included some personal stories that go with the topics she wrote about.
From Suits to Sweats: How to Work at Home as a Freelance Writer was a fast, easy read. It did not take long to read it, but the information was solid and helpful so I went back through it to re-read a couple of places. As I was using the information about different topics like advertising affiliates I would go back. This book gave me the information I needed in a clear and easy format so that the information was accessible to me, a relative novice to the field.
